Un bellísimo lugar, elegido por el Rey Felipe V en el siglo XVIII, donde se construyó un palacio real rodeado de jardines y enormes fuentes monumentales. Una tarde espléndida donde la cultura, el arte y el ocio fueron de la mano. Saludos.
Last Saturday our students were able to enjoy the Royal Site of the San Ildefonso Farm, declared a Monumental historical complex. A beautiful place, chosen by King Felipe V in the 18th century, where a royal palace was built surrounded by gardens and enormous monumental fountains. Cerca de nuestra residencia, en la localidad de Alcorcón, se ha habilitado un nuevo espacio de restauración y ocio en la Comunidad de Madrid. Este nuevo espacio se llama X-Madrid. Allí estuvieron el sábado nuestros alumnos disfrutando de casi todas las opciones que ofrece el nuevo lugar: bolos, videojuegos, moda, restaurantes… Otro sitio nuevo más al que podremos ir de vez en cuando para seguir disfrutando los fines de semanas con actividades de ocio y cultura. Near our residence, in the town of Alcorcón, a new restaurant and leisure space has been set up in the Community of Madrid. This new space is called X-Madrid. Our students were there on Saturday enjoying almost all the options that the new place offers: bowling, video games, fashion, restaurants… Another new place where we can go from time to time to continue enjoying the weekends with leisure and cultural activities. Gastón presentó ayer, a los alumnos y alumnas residentes de 4º ESO, 1º Bachillerato y 1º DP, el Taller de Orientación Vocacional que se realizará en la UCJC por orientadores y psicólogos profesionales. Un Taller de lo más interesante en el que recibirán asesoramiento profesional para que puedan encauzar, conociendo multitud de posibilidades, su camino académico hacia lo que deseen estudiar en su futuro universitario. Un buen número de nuestros alumnos y alumnas mostraron gran interés en asistir a estos talleres que darán comienzo la próxima semana. Saludos.
Yesterday, Mr. Gastón presented to the resident students of 4th ESO, 1st Baccalaureate and 1st DP the Vocational Guidance Workshop that will be held at the UCJC by professional counselors and psychologists. A very interesting Workshop in which they will receive professional advice so that they can direct, knowing a multitude of possibilities, their academic path towards what they wish to study in their university future. A good number of our students showed great interest in attending these workshops that will begin next week. Greetings.

El Grupo de Teatro de la Residencia organizó ayer, invitando a sus compañeros residentes de 4º de la ESO y bachillerato, un cine-fórum muy interesante. Proyectamos la película de la que todo el mundo habla: “La sociedad de la nieve” de J. A. Bayona. Película basada en los terribles hechos reales que sucedieron el 13 de octubre de 1972, cuando un avión uruguayo, con 45 personas a bordo, se estrelló en los Andes. Aquella tragedia, que ya fue llevada al cine en otras ocasiones, se convirtió en todo un referente de supervivencia a nivel mundial, puestos que 16 viajeros consiguieron sobrevivir durante 72 días en, quizá, uno de los lugares más adversos del planeta para poder vivir. La grandeza de esta película es que está narrada desde el punto emocional de lo que sintieron, vivieron, sufrieron y realizaron el grupo de supervivientes, sin dejar de lado en ningún momento a los que perdieron la vida en tan dramático accidente. En la charla que realizamos, tras el visionado, resaltamos, además de la belleza cinematográfica de la película, la cantidad de valores que transmite la misma: la amistad, la colaboración, el trabajo en equipo, la solidaridad, el compromiso… Sin duda una película de lo más recomendable. Deseamos desde aquí que se lleve muchos Goyas en los premios del cine español y que tenga suerte en la ceremonia de los Oscars, ya que tiene 2 nominaciones. No os la perdáis. Saludos.
Yesterday, the Residence Theater Group organized a very interesting cinema-forum, inviting its fellow 4th year ESO and high school residents. We screened the film that everyone is talking about: “The Snow Society” by J. A. Bayona. Film based on the terrible real events that happened on October 13, 1972, when a Uruguayan plane, with 45 people on board, crashed in the Andes. That tragedy, which was already made into a movie on other occasions, became a benchmark for survival worldwide, since 16 travelers managed to survive for 72 days in, perhaps, one of the most adverse places on the planet to live. The greatness of this film is that it is narrated from the emotional point of what the group of survivors felt, lived, suffered and did, without ever leaving aside those who lost their lives in such a dramatic accident. In the talk we held, after the viewing, we highlighted, in addition to the cinematographic beauty of the film, the number of values that it transmits: friendship, collaboration, teamwork, solidarity, commitment… Without a doubt a highly recommended film. We hope from here that he wins many Goyas at the Spanish film awards and that he has luck at the Oscars ceremony, since he has 2 nominations. Don’t miss it. Greetings.

Last Saturday we visited Alcalá de Henares, one of the most famous and largest cities in the Community of Madrid. Its artistic and cultural wealth is vast: University of Alcalá, Cervantes’ birthplace museum, Corral de comedias theater, Cathedral… A city full of history where walking and learning go hand in hand. Mañana sábado regresan nuestros alumnos residentes de una estupenda semana en la nieve. Junto a muchos de sus compañeros de colegio han disfrutado de una semana de aprendizaje, con monitores cualificados, en la que han mejorado o iniciado, según cada uno, su nivel de esquí. Una semana de convivencia en los Alpes, alojados en la residencia de nuestro colegio hermano: SEK-Les Alpes. Ayer vivimos una noche muy especial: nuestra tradicional cena de convivencia de Navidad. Antes de cenar, la banda de música de alumnos del colegio y residencia, dirigidas magistralmente por Paul, nos deleitó con un par de canciones, con música y voz en directo, que anunció la gran noche que íbamos a pasar. Tras la música pudimos disfrutar de una excelente cena servida por Catergest, a quienes damos las gracias desde este blog. Antes de la función, tres de nuestros alumnos residentes nos dedicaron unos emotivos discursos, así como Eloísa, Directora de nuestro colegio, y Gastón, Director de la Residencia. Y como “postre” la representación de la obra de teatro: CUENTO DE NAVIDAD, una actuación que provocó el entusiasmo del público y la alegría de nuestros alumnos al ver recompensado su trabajo con tanto cariño. Sin duda, y como suele pasar en cada Cena de Navidad, una de las veladas más entrañables que se disfrutan en la Residencia. Yesterday we experienced a very special night: our traditional Christmas dinner. Before dinner, the band of students from the school and residence, masterfully directed by Paul, delighted us with a couple of songs, with live music and vocals, which announced the great night we were going to spend. After the music we were able to enjoy an excellent dinner served by Catergest, whom we thank on this blog. Before the performance, three of our resident students gave us emotional speeches, as well as Eloísa, Director of our school, and Gastón, Director of the Residence. And as a “dessert” the performance of the play: A CHRISTMAS CAROL, a performance that provoked the enthusiasm of the public and the joy of our students when they saw their work rewarded with so much love. Without a doubt, and as usually happens at every Christmas Dinner, one of the most endearing evenings enjoyed at the Residence. Congratulations to all the artists, musicians and actors, who stepped on stage with such professionalism. Here I leave you a good handful of photos from our big night yesterday. Greetings.
